How To Vote In An Election

Danny Said:

How come I can't vote for a write-in judge in local elections on Election day?

We Answered:

I have 30 years as an Election Inspector (or judge in Florida terms).
There is always a provision for 'write-in' votes. I know we're in the process of getting new voting machines around the country, and even in my own state of NY, but there is (at least on our machines) a lever above the office in which you would want to cast a write-in. You lift up the lever, and write the name, and it is recorded on the paper roll on the back of the machine and should be recorded by the inspectors (judges) and by re-canvassed by the County Board of Elections.
An inspector (or judge) can not persuade you from not casting a write-in vote.

Diane Said:

Approximately how many people will be disqualified or not allowed to vote on election day do to a mistake?

We Answered:

That doesn't sound like a reason to deny you your right to vote! Call the election commission, or better yet, go down there.

Ashley Said:

how many people would do a write in vote this election?

We Answered:

I haven't studied Ron Paul's platform in detail yet, but I would certainly consider him because I do not like and cannot vote for any of three main candidates and still be able to look myself in the eye in the mirror.

Donald Said:

How Is It That A Corporation can participate in an election, through contributions, but it can not vote?

We Answered:

Great point. That's why even after politicians are elected, they don't do the will of the people who elected them - they do the will of the donors who finance their bottomless campaign coffers.

The bottom line to me is, you get what you pay for. If you want elected officials to do the will of the people, then the people need to be the ones paying for the elected officials (obviously that means not just their salaries, but their campaigns as well). Public financing of elections is, imho, the only long term solution for real campaign reform. It works great in the local venues where it's already in place.

Peace to you.

Hugh Said:

How could the U.S. government get people to vote on election day?

We Answered:

It's not the government's responsibility. It's up to the people and only the people. -yk
