How To Vote In The General Election

Deborah Said:

I am an American citizen working in China, and a registered voter. How do I vote in the general election?

We Answered:

Because you are a citizen living abroad, the process to get an absentee ballot is a little different than you may be used to. Your ballot must be requested through the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act, which provides that military personnel and Americans residing abroad may still register and vote in our elections.

To find out more about this act and request your absentee ballot, go to their website: http://www.fvap.gov/

Ralph Said:

Is race going to be a factor in how you vote in the General Election?

We Answered:

No, I'm not a racist.

Roy Said:

How do I know where and when to go vote for the general election? e.g. my polling place?

We Answered:

Check the state board of election's web site for Arizona. If they don't have it, call them on Monday. Someone should be able to tell you where to go vote.

Julian Said:

How many friends and family do you know that won`t bother to vote at the General Election?

We Answered:

I agree, couldn't believe it when my boss said today he had never voted, he used to be in the army too, being prepared to fight in wars without any interest who is governing the country makes no sense to me. Its laziness and ignorance, people died so that we could have the vote.

Viola Said:

How many of you will vote in the upcoming general election?

We Answered:

I have to vote. If I don't vote I will have no right to exercise my rights to complain about policies I disagree with. Throughout the history of the democratic system, the only way things have been changed is by voting out those who are ineffective or whose policies you do not agree with and replacing them with people who will get the country back on track.
One vote may not mean anything, but if enough "one votes" don't vote, it means that no ones voice is heard and the politicians will just do what ever they want to.

Priscilla Said:

How can we get people to vote in general elections?

We Answered:

There needs to be a huge TV campaign, probably using celebrities (Madonna did a good one in the US in the 90's that was very successful).
Unfortunately voting needs to be made 'cool' again, and this is probably the best way when you are aiming at the non-voting section of our society.

I understand the temptation to allow these people to remain voluntarily disenfranchised, however ultimately I think that is immoral. We must awaken the power of democracy within these people, it makes a better more responsible citizen after all. It is the governments duty to actively promote and encourage the voting of all its citizens. Texting and celebrities on TV are a good start.
