If you're working with an organization, that should have all been explained before you agreed to host him. If this is a private arrangement (which I suspect is true because you say "I met him online"), that is something that you and he will need to work out. If he's a college student, I would assume that he is over 18 and, therefore, legally an adult, making him responsible for himself. As for the safety of your family, that's difficult to say not knowing how much you know about each other.I know this isn't a great answer, but it's really hard to comment on private arrangements.
