Popular Vote 2008
Jose Said:
In the 2008 election, whose electoral vote went against the popular vote of that state? We Answered:
Currently almost every state has a winner-takes-all system of apportioning electoral votes. Only Maine and Nebraska apportion electoral votes differently - they do it according to majority in each congressional district.Obviously in a winner-takes-all state, the electoral vote cannot go against the popular vote. In Nebraska in 2008, one district went for Obama and the other 4 went for McCain. I don't think this is a case of electoral vote going against the popular vote, but you may see it differently.
On the other hand, viewing the election nationally instead of state-by-state, it is possible for the electoral vote to go against the popular vote. This happened in 2000. Here's a description of all four times it has happened at the national level: http://www.america.gov/st/usg-english/20…

who won popular vote in 2008 presidential election? We Answered:
This web site is an excellent resource to see who won various elections by both electoral vote and popular vote:http://www.270towin.com
2008: Obama 364 EV (Popular 69,456,897)
McCain 174 EV (Popular 59,934,814 )
2004: GWB 274 EV (Popular 62,039,073)
Kerry 251 EV (Popular 59,027,478)
2000: GWB 271 EV (Popular 50,456,062)
Gore 266 EV (Popular 50,996,582)
As you can see, Obama won both Electoral Votes and Popular Votes by a much wider margin than Bush ever did (Bush LOST the popular vote in 2000)

How Did U.S. Republican Party Presidential Nominee John McCain (R-AZ) Win 46% Of The Popular Vote In 2008?We Answered:

Why is Miss California being attacked for backing the popular vote in 2008?We Answered:
I don't think it had as much to do with the popular vote as it did with her beliefs. That judge asked for her view on marriage, and she gave it. It's absolutely ridiculous that he would cause her to be dethroned simply because she disagreed with him. Last time I checked, the pageant wasn't about gay rights, and whatever our personal views on gay marriage may be, this was absolutely an abuse of his power.
