one of the very best websites out there for accurate information that provides that information in a non-partisan way. I have recommended it in the past.

Marcus Said:

Is Project Vote Smart reliable?

We Answered:

I did a cursory bit of research into the head of Project Vote Smart, John Aristotle Phillips, and discovered a lawsuit he'd filed against an Illinois-based competitor, Metromail, that might warrant further indepth investigation to determine if there was a religious (as in "right-wing") component, since the lawsuit mentions "lists of children"---I tend to be a skeptic because of the prevalence of right-wing religious fanatics in power or trying to use abusive strategies to seize power these days. As to whether Project Vote Smart is reliable, I noticed that one of their clients is a pharmaceutical company whose letter of praise is posted as an ad lauding their services, which leads one to suspect this particular pleasant-sounding entity is lobbyist-funded and/or lobbyist affiliated. My inclination at this point is to suggest caution in making use of this website...at least until more indepth research into all the details of its existence and its staff can be done. They provide a business of setting up PACs (Political Action Committees) that politicians often use to accept and conceal bribes from lobbyists, with the letter of praise from the pharmaceutical company cited above being one of their satisfied PAC customers (and DC-based lobbyists for the multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical industry outnumber our elected representatives by at least five to one, according to Rossi, cited below). This fact alone would suggest possible conflicts of interest when it comes to providing supposedly "unbiased" information in order to "vote smart" (which might actually mean "Vote in ways that help the corporations we represent"). You might be better off just watching both C-SPAN1 (House sessions) and C-SPAN2 (Senate sessions).

What does the number 231 mean to you?

We Answered:

It's a number that has prime factors of 3, 7, and 11. It's also what the windshield on my Camaro cost me in dollars.
