Registering To Vote In California

Barry Said:

What is the procedure for registering to vote in california?

We Answered:

First, here are the requirements for voting in California: You must be a citizen of the U.S., a resident of California, must be 18 years old at the time of the election, not serving prison time, and not be judged mentally incompetent by a court of law.

Next, the voter registration deadline for California is 15 days before a primary and an election. (So, to vote in the 2006 midterm elections, you have to register no later than October 22.)

You can pick up voter registration forms for your state at your local U.S. Post Office or most public libraries. You can also visit http://www.declareyourself.com to download and print out voter registration forms for all states. Don't forget to complete the form, sign and mail it in to the address indicated on the form for your state.

And don't forget to remind your friends, family and co-workers to register and vote on Election Day on November 7, 2006.

Misty Said:

How do you register to vote in California Primary Elections?

We Answered:

As long as you are registered as a Democrat, Republican, or one of the other main political parties you can vote in the primaries. If you have not declared a party you need to re-register and choose either Republican or Democrat. I think if you're not declared you can still vote, but only for a Democratic candidate. You can call your county voter registrar and they are usually pretty helpful. It's good to hear you plan to vote!

Misty Said:

Is tomorrow the deadline to register to vote in California?

We Answered:

I think it will be accepted if it's postmarked by tomorrow. If you're planning to drop it in the mail, walk it into the post office and ask for it to be stamped on site.

Your better bet is to go to your local County Clerk's office and submit your registration in person. That way you won't even have to worry about the mail.

Registering to vote in California?

We Answered:

Yes. AI's are a party, you are restricted to your party ballot in California, unless you register decline to state. Decline to state means you can choose which ballot you want, then you can vote for a candidate that is with the party ballot you choose, but then you can't vote on the other ballots for others you might want to vote for in another party, you are stuck with that ballot or party and only those in that party to vote for.
