Registering To Vote Uk

Sandra Said:

Questions about registering to vote (UK)?

We Answered:

Police, etc got sacked for being members of a banned organisation, not for how they voted, which remains private (though I guess if you're a BNP member, it's not hard to work out who you voted for, just like Labour party members usually vote Labour!). No-one can tell who you voted for.

The electoral register can indeed be used by the police, most often to check your identity. This has an up-side as well, in that if you apply for a loan, credit card, mortgage, etc, you are much, much more likely to be approved if you're on the register. Many companies just don't deal with people who aren't on the register. I think it's also used if you have a Criminal Records Bureau check (ie if you ever want to work with children or vulnerable adults).

I would strongly encourage you to vote - it's part of your civic duty and if you don't, you lose the right to ***** about the bunch of chimps who run the country! Look on your local authority's website for details or use the link below. But hurry - there's only 6 weeks before the election!

Finally, if you're worried about people accessing your personal information, do you have a Tesco Clubcard? A Nectar card? Boots Advantage card? Any of these probably tell people more about you than the Government will ever know...!

Andrew Said:

Does registering to vote in the UK make you eligible for jury duty?

We Answered:

It's a bit like the lottery, by registering to vote you buy a ticket till you reach the age of 70, then when you have nothing better to do they don't want you :o)

If you want out either break the law and get caught or take a position upholding it.

If I have until Tuesday to register to vote (UK)?

We Answered:

Hand it in to you local Council offices, but the address should be on the envelope that came with the form.

Roland Said:

Am I already registered to vote in the UK?

We Answered:

You have to be on the electoral register in order to vote. If you're living with your parents, they should have registered for you. If you've received a poll card, you're registered.
