Registration For Voting

Jill Said:

Why is pre-registration for voting required? What problems might occur without it?

We Answered:

None as demonstrated by the states that don't require it. There has never been any evidence of significant voter fraud or similar problems in states that allow you to register and vote on the same day. The initial and follow up checks are effective. If a person is found to vote more than once in an election, they are found out by follow up checks then may be fined, jailed and/or blacklisted for future elections as per state laws. Voter fraud isn't something you do more than once.

I see I'm the only one who noticed you said "pre-registration"

To daniel: most states with election day registration are not using special technology to allow people to register and vote at polls. They are using requirements such as showing utility bills for their homes, other people to vouch for them, etc. Combinations like that are hard to fake.

Vickie Said:

All of the following are reasons for recent decline in voter registration and voting except?

We Answered:

B, a growing number of blacks and minorities could not be a causal factor in the decrease.

Willard Said:

How do I change my voting registration status?

We Answered:

Here's a site I found that looks like it will work. Don't live in Pa, but I find it strange they wouldn't let you vote locally.

Many states require you be registered D or R when voting in primary or caucuses. But never heard of one where you couldn't vote in any general election. Could be wrong. But I would research it more if I were you.

Sergio Said:

How long does it take for voting registration to show up?

We Answered:

Right now the offices are getting tons of Registration Cards in the mail. It could take them a week or more to finish processing them. Don't worry too much though, if they don't get yours entered into their system in time, you can ask for a provisional ballot at your polling place and you will still get to vote.

Christy Said:

What are the procedures for voting registration?

We Answered:

In order to vote, you need to be registered to vote. Registering to vote is pretty simple. You fill out a form with your current address and other information and send it in. The deadline for registering to vote is Monday, October 4th, so you need to act fast.

The easiest thing to do is go to www.rockthevote.com or click on the button to the right that says REGISTER TO VOTE HERE. You will fill out an application and then print it out, sign it, and mail it in tomorrow. Make sure the postmark is on October 4th.

The other option is to go to your local board of elections and filling out a form there.

Hope that helps.
