Call the state of Texas controllers office or check out the state of Texas website. It may tell you.Lois Said:
As a military spouse, do I have to change residency? We Answered:
With the new law that was passed you are no longer required to change your state of residency. Prior to this, you were required to change it if you worked in the new state. Now, that said... there are still some laws that you have to follow. From the Texas DPS website:
"New residents moving into Texas, who have a valid driver license from their home state, have 90 days after entry into the state to secure a Texas driver license."
This does include military spouses. The MSRA did not change DL laws... those are still valid for each state.
So... you have to get a new Driver's Lic, but you do not have to change anything else.
ETA: Just because a lot of people have done something and gotten away with it doesn't make it right. Here in ND, if you claim exemption for not having a ND DL you are required to bring in a copy of your spouses orders, with the report date on it! If you are past 90 days... you're in for a HUGE fine! Best bet... do what is legal! And the most important thing is that you don't have to change residency, but you just need to get a new DL.
