The Electoral Roll

Allison Said:

Will he be fined for never being registered on the electoral roll?

We Answered:

Probably not:

The amount of the fine varies between federal and various state elections. Usually people are issued with warnings when it is found that they have not voted, and they are given an opportunity to show cause for not voting. Acceptable reasons for not voting may include: being in the Accident Department of a Hospital, being ill (requires confirmation), being out of the country on election day, religious objections, being incarcerated etc. I forgot is not considered acceptable and will incur a fine.

Alex Said:

How can I get on the electoral roll?

We Answered:

You can go to the local authority and fill in a form, or go online (if your council has a website) and get them to send you one. Your friend will need to sign it though.

Douglas Said:

What information does the electoral roll show about a person?

We Answered:

It provides information on registered voters, such as name, address and party affiliation and that is about all. The only people on the roll are those who registered to vote.
