There is no MORAL question about it. if we truely didn't care who was black and who was white or asian or whatever, then what does it matter if they ask for your race on a voters ballot or registration. It's not like asking asking that question means that the person is going to be judged for it!Specifically with drivers registration and ID cards, they have to know what race you are in case you go missing or commit a crime, so that they know what you look like.
Also, on the census ballots and such, you are not REQUIRED to tell them what race you are. they give you an option to say "no answer"
people like you are part of the problem with racism. you over think it to the point where you try to find a problem where there ISN'T one. Just ASKING a persons race should not be insulting. but for some reason, that has become the idea.

It's probably going to depend on what store you go to, because all storeowners have their own exceptions. I've found that many will take health cards, but it is illegal to do so, so just as many will tell you it is not an acceptable form of id.
