Voter Registration Information

Shannon Said:

Is it illegal to view another persons voter registration information?

We Answered:

the voter rolls with persons name etc are in the public domain.
Votes cast are destroyed after the vote so I doubt they did that. Unless they were a person at the booths when the vote was done, in which case they would face a criminal prosecution for looking at the private info.

Voter registration information?

We Answered:

well when I signed up it was all electronic. I simply had them register me when I got my drivers license. You don't worry about a card that you need to hold on to. When it comes time to vote you should get a postcard that says where you have to go to vote and what time and such. Depending how huge the event you will also receive a lot of junk mail about topics. Hope this helps!!

Claude Said:

Is there anything you can do when your voter registration information can't be found?

We Answered:

I agree with Paul B. The only reason you would have been removed from the precinct where you used to vote is if somebody re-registered you somewhere else. If so, they will have a record of it, and if they can verify that you didn't vote there. Then they will count your provisional ballot.

It's important to follow this up ... not just so that your vote still gets counted (I don't care who you voted for, or how close the election is, it's still important) ... but so that they investigate an act of voter fraud.

Follow up, man. It's important.

And good for you for filling out the provisional ballot!

--- {edit ... after election day} ----

As an example of how important this is, the controversial Prop 8 in California is so close that it may come down to provisional ballots!

Police making arrests from 1st time voter registration information. Is this lawful?

We Answered:

I think it would be. Why would you have a problem with it? You do the crime, you do the time.

Discuss It!
