Most municipalities have rules about keeping your voter registration active. Some places automatically remove you if you move because you end up in a new precinct and need to register for that new precinct, which determines who you get to vote for in local elections. (My tiny town of less than 4000 people has 6 precincts- just to give you an idea of a move across town could cause this). Some localities drop voters from a registered voter list if they haven't voted in the last election. Make sure that you fill out the correct/updated information to re-register, and hopefully it is not past your "must register by this date to vote in November" date. According to the LA Voter Registration website you have until 15 days before the election to have your registration in order, I don't know what that would mean about getting your absentee ballot. Don't be afraid to ask questions about what you will have to do to keep your name on an active voter list- there's no such thing as a stupid question (but sometimes, there are stupid answers).
