Voter Turnout By Age

Ian Said:

Should the constant age attacks on McCain worry the Democrats?

We Answered:

It just emphasizes the hypocrisy. They cry racist when someone says something negative about Obama and then turn right around and make ageism remarks about McCain.

Julio Said:

Where can I find good statistical data that shows voter turnout by age in the US?

We Answered:

http://www.allfacebook.com/facebook-vote…

Willard Said:

ap govenment, help please.?

We Answered:

Hate to say this, but if you can't handle the work at the high school level you will have problems in both college and real life.

That being said,

For your first question, expanding voting down to the age of 18 hasn't really changed the elections at all since very rarely do the 18 to 25 group come out in large numbers. As for both women and African Americans, we have seen more women and African Americans in politics.

As for your second question, there use to be a poll tax that the Democrats put on to keep blacks from voting. Two alternative forms of political participation were race riots and sit ins. One group of blacks wanted to do things non-violently while another group wanted to do it through violence. The group that acted like adults helped to change policy a lot quicker then the group that acted like children.

Eduardo Said:

a little help with some ap government free response answers?

We Answered:

2a. In the South, white political bosses charged black people a poll tax and used other devious techniques to discourage them from voting. This even happened in 2004 when the polling stations in heavily black and Democratic areas was closed even when many people were waiting in line to vote.

2b. The Black Power movements began in the 60s with groups like the Black Panthers who became aggressive about minority rights and anti-discrimination and equal treatment which had always been denied black Americans.

1a. People aged 18 were granted the vote in the 1970s because of Vietnam. The idea was if they were old enough to kill they should have the right to vote. Since then this age group has not turned out in very high numbers.

Norma Said:

Should the Voting Age be Raised to 21 Years?

We Answered:

Initially I was in agreement, then thought back to my 1st election, studying up, being excited and so I think 18's fine, even thought Ross Perot didn't win:]]
