Voters Registration Change Of Address

Loretta Said:

Does the DMV have to change your address on a learner's permit for you?

We Answered:

You are required to notify the DMV in writing when you move so they can update your records. Usually you have 30 days to notify them when you move.

Alma Said:

Who do I call to verify my voter registration was transferred already to my current address? ?

We Answered:

You will get a post card from the voter registration office, to confirm a change of address. Changing you address at the DMV doesn't change your voter registration address. You must fill out a change of address at the voter registration office. You can do this online.

Javier Said:

Voter Registration Question - I went to vote but couldn't?

We Answered:

I would have asked for a provisional ballot. You could have voted & the provisional would have allowed them time to sort out their registration errors.

Provisional ballots are ballots cast by voters in the U.S. who come to the polls but find their names missing from the rolls, or whose voting qualification is challenged for some reason. In the 2000 elections, some 1 million voters were turned away from the polls because of clerical errors or other mistakes, thereby prompting electoral reforms, which included the creation of these ballots for use in national elections. The provisional ballots are set aside and evaluated after the election to see which ones should be counted.

Andrea Said:

Tyler Said:

Is it state law in order to homestead you have to have that address on your license & voter's registration?

We Answered:

Depends on your state law. In texas you have the right to an appeal before an administrative board to plead your case. If you can prove that you stayed there most of the time you might win. However, the question the are likely to ask, and how you answer will be very important: "Why didn't you change your driver's license and voter registration? Was it to avoid paying higer fees and taxes in the county your residence is now in over the previously registered address?" If the answer is yes (or they think the answer is yes or don't believe you) you are screwed, because they will figure you were trying to cheat your taxes anyway, so they will hit you with the whole bill. Good luck!
