I assume you are in the US. Every state is different. However, my guess is it is much to late to mail a voter's registration at this point. Check out your state's voter web site, find the nearest office and go there today. In most states it is the same place where you get your drivers license.

There is no legal remedy that can be taken against you if you do not fill the form in, no one can force you, you have the right to say no. I f you don't fill the form in you will not be able to vote, you will also have difficulty in getting credit, opening bank accounts etc. Otherwise its your choice and that's that.

No but i find it pretty outrageous that some people want to eliminate the use of id's as proof of who you are when you vote in this country!

It depends on your state. Some state do not even send voter registration cards and in a few states you can register the day you vote. So it can be as soon as 2 weeks or never.
