When Women Got The Right To Vote

Andrew Said:

what were the dates when slaves were emancipated and when women got the right to vote?

We Answered:

There are actually three answers. First, Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation January 1, 1863 HOWEVER it did not free all slaves. Full end to slavery occured with the passage of the 13th amendment in 1865 (this did NOT provide full and equal rights it just ended slavery). Suffrage for women was passed with the 19th amendment in 1920.

Karl Said:

what if women got the right to vote after independence in 1776 instead of 1920?

We Answered:

No doubt had women been given the right to vote in 1776 instead of 1920, significant things in history would have taken place earlier than they did rather than later.

Rights for women would have be fought earlier, women running for and winning political offices would have been sooner, women allowed to fight in the armed services would have been sooner, etc.

Women would have had a voice in who governs them and how they wanted to be governed had they been allowed to vote earlier.

And they would have chosen candidates who made a difference in their lives.

Kent Said:

What happened when women got the right to vote?

We Answered:

Some of the factors were the 14,15 and 16th amendments which gave citizenship rights to the freed slaves at the end of the Civil War. These amendments made discrimation based on race illegal. Women's sufferage movements gained traction because women were the only large segment of the population to not have the right to vote.

During World War 1; the sufferage movements became even more vocal because when soldiers went off to fight in 1917-1918; women took on a more active role in society; simiar to the more famous work movement during World War 2 in 41-45.

Two quick notes; women's sufferage movements existed in some form throughout the 19th cenutry, they were just overshadowed by the abolishionist movement up until the Civil War. Labor movements and immigration in the second half of the 19th century dominated the political landscape. The other note is that the sufferage movement was for federal elections. Several states had different local/statewide voting policies. Wyoming for instance had a female governor long before the 21st amendment which gave the women the right to vote.

What would have happened if the 21st amendment was not added the constitution? That is an interesting hypothetical. Its impossible to predict because I think the rights would have been given if not in the 1920s than at somepoint later in the 20th century. Social scientists and historians do not deal with hypotheticals like that because it does not increase our understanding.

Daisy Said:

who was president when women got the right to vote?

We Answered:

Woodrow Wilson in 1919. New Zealand was the first country to give women the vote in the late 1860s followed by some parts of Australia.

Christy Said:

Blacks and women got their right to vote recognized, when will the right to life of the unborn be recognized?

We Answered:

When each states overturns the outcome of Roe V. Wade.

The so-called "Right to Murder One's Unborn Child" must be seen for what it is - a clever ruse which has resulted in a holocaust within our borders, the murder of millions of innocent lives who will never sing, dance, laugh, pray, cure disease, create inventions, heal, teach or anything else. The Supreme Court in 1973 deprived millions of individuals their lives to millions of women could become accomplices in the murder of their own children.

It is an abomination, and God will turn his face from us for our national sin against the innocent.
